01.Who we are

My Homies Kitchen

Philosophy of My Homies Kitchen

At My Homies Kitchen, we believe that food is more than nourishment—it's a medicine for the body, mind, and soul. Rooted in the ancient wisdom of Indigenous knowledge and traditional foods, we strive to honor our heritage and respect the land with every dish we create. We embrace the principle of zero waste, ensuring that every resource is utilized mindfully, minimizing our environmental impact, and fostering a deep connection with the Earth.

Our kitchen is committed to sustainability, offering a space for culinary artistry that promotes climate-adaptive solutions. We focus on reducing our carbon footprint through innovative practices and eco-friendly techniques, ensuring that future generations can continue to thrive.

Through economic and workforce development, we empower our community by providing education and hands-on training in the culinary arts. Our Earth-friendly training facility also serves as a diversion program, offering a second chance for those seeking new pathways to success while learning the skills to cook, create, and thrive sustainably.

We acknowledge the importance of acculturation, blending the best of traditional knowledge with contemporary culinary techniques to create something new, yet rooted in the wisdom of our ancestors. At My Homies Kitchen, we respect the influence of diverse cultures on our kitchen while maintaining a strong foundation in Indigenous food practices.

Education is key to creating lasting change. We not only serve food but also offer educational programs to teach the importance of food sovereignty, environmental stewardship, and climate resilience. By providing opportunities for our community to learn and grow, we foster a deep appreciation for the Earth and its bounty, ensuring that our kitchen remains a hub for culinary innovation and sustainable living.

Together, we can build a future where food is medicine, sustainability is at the heart of every meal, and economic and social justice go hand in hand.

History

My Homies Kitchen was born out of a need to address the lack of universal healthcare and the disproportionate health challenges faced by BIPOC communities. During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, we saw firsthand how preventable diseases were taking lives, especially in marginalized communities. These health crises, often rooted in poor diets and limited access to nutritious foods, inspired us to take action.

At the heart of our kitchen is the desire to relearn what foods are indigenous to our people, restore indigenous cultural autonomy, and work toward re-indigenizing the plate. By focusing on decolonizing the diet, we believe we can not only combat the health disparities in our communities but also empower people to reconnect with their heritage and the land.

Founded by XEF., a lifelong advocate for food knowledge, history, and justice, My Homies Kitchen started in the midst of the pandemic as a way to serve and heal the community. XEF., born and raised in downtown Fresno, has dedicated his life to reclaiming and promoting indigenous food practices.

This vision became a reality thanks to the support and collaboration of key organizations, including Chico T.E.K., Casa de la Raza, and Fresno Barrios Unidos, all of which were instrumental in building this movement.

Today, My Homies Kitchen has grown into two locations in Fresno, continuing its mission to serve culturally relevant, health-conscious meals while educating the community about food sovereignty and justice.
